Baseball

When I was 15 or 16, I was obsessed with the New York Mets. Absolutely obsessed. I watched every game I could, and if I couldn't watch the game (more than half the games were broadcast on a pay cable channel that we didn't get), I listened to it on WFAN. I also listened to the pre and post game radio shows. And the post post game call in show. I read all the articles about the games in the next morning's papers (local and the NY Post which my dad always brought home with him from working in the city).

The obsession has faded over the years. I couldn't for the life of me name the 2007 Mets starting line up. But I admit, in mid-September with a 6.5 game lead in the NL East, I'm staring to get Mets-fever again.

I truly believe this is their year. If there's any such thing as heaven, my dad's up there pulling strings to insure the Mets are going to kick some ass this year.

Fall

Growing up, we lived very close to my high school. On cool, crisp fall days we could hear the marching band playing during half-time of the football games. It wasn't loud - much more like background noise than anything else. The beat of the drums was the most identifiable sound.

My new condo is several blocks from a high school. In the mornings before work I can hear the marching band practicing. The sound brings me back to cool temps, falling leaves and the innocence of my childhood.

Its a nice way to start the day.

Now with more than just knitting content!

I have neglected this poor little blog for much too long. I'm still knitting, but I guess I just don't feel motivated to talk about it so much. I recently finished a sock. The pair shall be a slightly belated birthday present for a friend. I haven't cast on for the second sock yet, but I probably should do so soon before second sock syndrome sets in. I'm also nearly finished with a baby blanket for my best friend from law school's first child. I started it in January. He was born in April. Here it is September and I'm still not done. But heck, they live in Virginia and its still hot there. The baby wouldn't have much use for a wool blanket in the summer anyway!

I can justify anything. Its a real gift.

I am DYING for a Karmann Ghia. I don't know anything about car restoration or maintenance and probably will end paying someone else a ton of money to restore one for me, but I have to have one. See, my grandma had a '73 (I think) green Ghia coupe. My brother and I used to play in that car all the time. We were fascinated by the fact that the engine was in the trunk. We'd take turns sitting in the driver's seat and turning the dials of the radio and tapping on the gear shift. We were too short to reach the pedals, which is probably the only reason we were allowed to play in the car. My grandma died when I was 11. I BEGGED my mom and my grandpa to keep the car for me for when I turned 16. But my stupid Uncle Jimmy thought it should be sold. Some lucky Ghia enthusiast got that gorgeous car.

Yes, after 21 years, I am still bitter.

Maybe I should email my uncle and tell him he needs to find me one since he deprived me of my grandma's. If only it were that easy........

Anyway, every few months I get the Karmann Ghia bug up my butt and I spend hours trolling ebay and Craigslist. One of these days, I'll buy one.

My mom & I went to Indian Market today. I am sunburned beyond belief and exhausted from the heat and all the walking around. I had fun tho. My mom bought me a new ring and I had to talk her out of buying me a painting by an artist who's paintings I have coveted since I first saw them at Taos Pueblo in 1998. I absolutely love this woman's work, but none of the pieces she had today really spoke to me. We see her at least once a year at events like Indian Market, so I'm hoping next time she has something I love and my mom is still feeling generous :)

Tomorrow my brother & SIL find out if I'm going to get a niece or a nephew. My money is on boy. I'm psyched to finally know if I should buy this and this in pink or blue.

I was driving home from work the other day, going north on 5th Street, and I saw a firetruck, a couple police cars and a little gray hatchback with no hood all in the parking lot of the district attorney's building. I sorta wondered what had happened, but I didn't give it much thought.

Yesterday I was driving home from work, going north on 5th Street, and I saw a firetruck, a couple police cars and a little gray hatchback with no hood all in the parking lot of the district attorney's building. I thought "why is that car still there?" Then I looked to my right and saw tons of people and cameras on the sidewalk.

Boy, did I feel dumb! I actually for about 30 seconds thought that something was really going on! I drove slowly past and noticed that the police cars said "Indiana Police" on the door. Duh.

So after some searching (and recalling all the signs around downtown that say "IPS" with arrows), I discovered that they were filming "In Plain Sight," a series for USA about witness protection. I'll have to Tivo it when it airs so I can see that damn hatchback that plagued me!

I hate lawyer jokes. But I think I need to print it out and hand it to all my clients.

A Lawyer's Lawyer Joke

A man is flying in a hot air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces his altitude and spots a man down below. He lowers the balloon further and shouts, "Excuse me, can you help me? I promised my friend I would meet him half an hour ago, but I don't know where I am."

The man below says, "Yes. You are in a hot air balloon, hovering approximately 30 feet above this field. You are between 40 and 42 degrees N. latitude, and between 58 and 60 degrees W. longitude."

"You must be a lawyer," says the balloonist.

"I am" replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but I have no idea what to make of your information, and the fact is I am still lost."

The man below responds, "You must be a client."

"I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are, or where you are going. You have made a promise which you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. The fact is you are in the exact same position you were in before we met, but now it is somehow my fault.

Today, for the second time, I was asked if Casey Jones was named for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I thought they were named for Italian artists. Admittedly my knowledge of the ninja turtles dates back to the early 90s and the kids I babysat back then. Ok I just checked Wikipedia and apparently Casey Jones is a vigilante crime fighter who is an ally of the turtles. And, apparently he did not play a very big role in the 1987 animated series (the one I'm certain I was forced to watch time & again with the boys I baby sat) but was a much larger player in the 2003 animated series - which I know I have never seen.

So great. Now I have to explain to everyone that NO my dog is not a vigilante crime fighter, rather a coke addicted train conductor.

Of all the places I've lived, I miss Philly food the most.

Right about now, I'd give my left arm for a Misto.

Its going to be a long night.

Every time a firecracker goes off, Casey starts growling and barking.

Joy.

Until now, I've had a really nice day. My mom & I drove up to Madrid and walked around the galleries and shops. Almost every shop had either a poster or t-shirt referencing Wild Hogs and the "diner" built by Disney for the movie is still there, although its not open.

After we'd seen everything and had some lunch at the Mine Shaft Tavern, we continued north to Santa Fe to hit the outlets. I really wanted to look around Eddie Bauer, but after being accosted twice in 3 minutes by over-eager sales chickys, I left. "HI-eeeeee, can I help you find something? Do you know about our BOGO deal on the shorts?" However, it was a successful trip as I found the perfect summer Coach bag.

On the way back to Albuquerque, we drove right into a hail storm. Traffic was bumper to bumper for about 15 miles until I bailed at the first exit in Albuquerque. While I successfully avoided much of the traffic, I drove right back into the hail storm. Its so wrong to see accumulation of hail on the side of the road in July! Crazy desert weather.

We drove back to my house so I could let Casey out for a bit and change. The temperature dropped probably close to 20 degrees and I was quite chilly in my tank top. After Casey ate some and ran around like a crazy man, we went back out and had dinner at Scarpas.

I can't believe I have to go back to work tomorrow. This mid-week holiday is crap.
